Program for Faculty Newly-Appointed to Villanova University

Dear Faculty,

Welcome to Villanova University! We are delighted that you are joining us as a new member of our academic community, and we look forward to meeting you in person during the orientation program, August 17-18. The program has been designed to ensure a smooth, successful transition to your instructional role and familiarize you with mission, policies, and instructional resources.

As you are preparing for your teaching responsibilities, we would like to check-in virtually with you briefly during the next two weeks, welcome you personally, see how things are going for you, and help answer any questions you might have.  It’s a friendly visit prior to the August program.  The check-in meeting will be offered virtually via Zoom.  Please click on this sign-upform to review available slots and sign up for one-on-one meetings with VITAL colleagues between 7/25-8/11. We offer morning, afternoon, and evening times to accommodate your schedules.  Once you sign up, we will email you the meeting information.  If you prefer a phone conversation, we are happy to do so; please send an email with date/time.

Prior to the program, you will be invited to participate in an asynchronous course on learning-centered online teaching offered in Blackboard (LMS). Please log into Blackboard LMS – click on elearning from VU homepage, then click on the VU seal, and sign in with your Villanova email and password. Once in Blackboard, please click on My Organizations and then on Seminar for Newly-Appointed Faculty at Villanova.  The seminar offers videos, resources on student engagement, syllabus development, and academic resources.  You need to have VU email and password to sign in (please reach out to the Office of the Provost for further details).

Villanova’s Fall 2022 semester will be a normal fall semester. Classrooms will be at full capacity without social distancing, and all undergraduate and graduate courses are planned to be in-person unless they had been traditionally taught in a different modality (e.g., 100% online). Please refer frequently to the following sites as you prepare for the fall semester: This online resource has been designed to support you as you begin to prepare your courses, develop course materials, and finalize syllabi. Please do contact us at vitalinfo@villanova.edu with your questions and/or to schedule a virtual meeting.
